The University District Home & Garden Tour is set for Sunday September 16, 2012, rain or shine, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This year will feature six luxurious homes and Gesu Catholic Church, which is celebrating its 90th year.  The landscapes featured will be the 2011 and 2012 neighborhood’s Garden Club winners.  Homeowners work hard on landscape designs and the Garden Club has begun to recognize their work.  Signs for the Garden Club winners will be posted for all to see making a walking tour of the neighborhood (or take the Trolley) a pleasure!   Registration is at Gesu Community Center off McNichols (6 Mile) and Oak Street.

A new addition for 2012 is an Art Show which again features the talent in our neighborhood.  The artisans will demonstrate everything from master woodworking and antique trunk refinishing to jewelry design.  Many artisans are world renown and will show art pieces and photos that are rarely seen outside of home collections.

The houses selected for the 2012 Home Tour reflect the University District’s European-influenced architectural variety, ranging from Italian Renaissance to English Tudor to French eclectic.  The owners of these homes have preserved the integrity of exterior detail that gives the neighborhood its prestigious ambiance, while the interior highlights the eclectic design that owners love to show off to visitors.  The home tour is all about architecture that cannot be found in new homes today.

A welcome center, ticket booth $15 in advance, $18 the day of the tour (checks or cash only) and free parking will be available on Birchcrest north of McNichols Road.  The event will also feature Hot Dog Girlz selling refreshments and an ice cream social at the end of the tour.

Again this year, the Wyandotte Trolley will operate a convenient circle route through the neighborhood.  Trolley tickets are included with Home & Garden Tour tickets or can be purchased separately for $5 each.  The route is approximately 2.5 miles from if you choose to walk or drive.  You can get on or off the trolley at anytime if you chose to walk a bit.

Purchase tickets online with a credit card at <this link> and will be waiting for you at the registration table on September 16th  under purchasers last name.  Registration is at Gesu Community Center 17198 Oak Dr, Detroit, MI 48221. Located off McNichols (6 Mile) and Livernois.

The tour is sponsored by the University District Development Corporation (UDDC), a 501(c)3 charity organization devoted to improving the University District area, and features the University District Community Association (UDCA).  Contributions and ticket purchases are tax deductible to the degree allowable by the IRS.
